Gray-market peptides sold online are not equivalent to FDA-approved drugs

Lloyd Klickstein used the drug-manufacturing requirements for an Investigational New Drug (IND) application — the regulatory permission needed before any experimental medicine can be given to people — to explain why peptides sold online for 'research purposes only' are unreliable. Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requires extensive documentation, purity testing, sterility verification, and factory inspections to ensure that what is on the label is what is in the bottle. Peptides purchased outside this system have no such guarantees: a buyer cannot verify purity, potency, or the absence of contaminants.
